Seaweed is one of those magical ingredients that can cure almost any skin care problem you might have. It has anti-bacterial properties that will aid in treatment of acne, and antioxidants that will renew aging skin, and loads of minerals, including magnesium, calcium and fluorine that will provide radiant clear skin.
Look for seaweed in shops specialized in Asian goods, or in larger supermarkets. You can use the nori sheets used for sushi rolling.

Sesame kelp salt (furikake) is my new favourite spice! It’s simply a mixture of sesame seeds, kelp and salt. Traditionally I believe it is used as a spice for white rice but I use it on almost any dish instead of salt, or on top of salads.
1/2 dl (4 tablespoons) sesame seed
2 tsp kombu flakes, or roughly chopped kombu
1-2 tsp salt
In a frying pan, toast sesame seeds and kombu until the seeds start to pop, then add salt and fry for another couple of minutes. Grind mixture in a mortar or possibly in a blender.
Face mask for normal skin
2 tsp dried seaweed
2 tsp rose water
3 tsp molasses
2 tsp rice flour
Mix the seaweed with the rose water and wait for the seaweed to swell. Mix in a mixer or chop seaweed with a knife. Then add the rest of the ingredients, mix well in mixer or by hand. Apply to face and neck, leave on for about 15 minutes and rinse with warm water.
Mix 2 parts of the face mask ingredients with 1 part ground sesame seeds or furikake. Apply to face and neck, leave it on for a few minutes if you wish and then rinse with warm water.
Mix 4 parts of the face mask ingredients with 1 part ground sesame seeds or furikake, and 1 part ground sea salt. Apply to face and neck, leave it on for a few minutes if you wish and then rinse with warm water.
Face mask for oily and aging skin
2 tsp kombu flakes
1 tsp rice vinegar
1 tsp sesame seed oil
2 T rice flour
Mix kombu flakes with a small amount of rose water (just enough to cover them). Leave to stand for about 5 minutes, then pour away excess water from the seaweed. Add seaweed to blender with rest of ingredients, or blend with hand blender. Apply mixture to face and neck, leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Finish with a splash of cold water or rose water.
