In the beginning of May, the people of Sweden were in panic. A few nights of frost meant that the strawberries might not be ready for midsummer. And a Midsummer without Swedish strawberries is not a proper Midsummer!
Luckily, there was no cause for alarm. The strawberries are ready and we can go out and celebrate a proper Swedish Midsummer.
But strawberries are not just a tasty reminder of summer, they are in fact very nutritious and good for you! And things that are good for you to eat, are probably also good to put on your face. I will now share a few easy beauty recipes with strawberries. Just put a few of the more squishy strawberries to the side and use them on your face instead of eating them!
When buying strawberries, make sure you get local, preferrably organic, strawberries. Strawberries are actually one of the fruits that are the most toxic when bought non-organic.
1. One-ingredient strawberry exfoliation
Strawberries contain AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid) which exfoliates the skin, leaving you with soft, smooth and youthful skin. For a quick and easy exfoliation, simply cut a strawberry in half and rub it all over your face and neck. Rinse off after about 5 minutes or if your skin starts tingling unpleasantly.
2. Two-ingredient strawberry exfoliation
Mash up a strawberry with a fork, and mix it with a tablespoon of yogurt, and apply to face. Leave on for about 10 minutes, rinse off.
3. Strawberries and cream face mask
Mmm … Strawberries and whipped cream. Delicious, I know, but this time it should go on your face!
2-3 ripe strawberries
1 tbs honey
2 tbs heavy whipped cream
Mash them with a fork, potato masher or in a blender. Add the honey and mix well. Then add the whipped cream, stir carefully. Apply to face and neck, leave on for 15 minutes.
4. Strawberry teeth whitener
The acidity of the strawberries will whiten your teeth. There are two methods of doing this. No wait, three: the first method is to simply eat a whole bunch of strawberries. The other methods are using mashed strawberries or a mixture of strawberry and baking soda. Mash up a strawberry with a fork or any other means you find work. If you like, add about 1/2 tsp of baking soda (don’t use baking soda on your teeth more than once a week though!). Apply the mixture to your teeth with a toothbrush, and leave on for about 5 minutes. Then brush your teeth with the mixture still in your mouth. Rinse well. Smile.
5. Strawberry makeup
You can actually use strawberry for a red tint on your cheeks and lips. Simply cut a strawberry in half and rub it over your cheeks and lips, smooth the color out with the palm of your hand.
6. Strawberry foot scrub
This is a recipe from Care2’s 8 uses for strawberries. I havenät treid it myself but it looks amazing! The AHA acids in the strawberries are sure to give your feet the peeling they need.
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoons kosher salt
Mix ingredients into a paste, massage well into feet, then rinse and dry.
7. Strawberry Hair Conditioner
This is another recipe from the link mentioned above. If you want glossy, silky hair, this one’s for you:
8 fresh strawberries
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
Mash ingredients thoroughly and massage into damp hair. Cover with a shower cap and a warm towel. Allow to stay on hair for at least 10 minutes, then shampoo as usual.
8. Strawberry face mask for mature skin
9. Anti-acne strawberry face mask
3 ripe strawberry pulp
1 tbsp honey
2 tsp lemon juice
Combine all the ingrediens, apply to face, leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse well.
And so, now all you need to do is go out and eat a lot of strawberries. And save a few for your face. Happy Midsummer!
