You take a first look at it, and it might not look like much. Light brown in color, a bit dirty looking, with a stamp in arabic on the top that you might not understand. It might be quite unevenly cut and you might find it lying in a box with tons of others, without any packaging. You pick it up, and it smells of earth and hay. But then you might cut it open, and you will be greeted by a beautiful deep emerald color. And then you might use it, and your will fall in love.
The product I’m talking about is one of the oldest cosmetic products there is. The traditions of Aleppo soap making is over a thousand years old, and is by some considered to be the first hand soap ever made.
Some of the things I put in my face
With me having this blog and all, I suppose i should set some kind of example to others. But I’m going to let you in on a little secret, as long as you don’t tell anyone. I’m really quite lazy with taking care of my skin. Often, I just skip the washing and moisturizing, and just spray some toner in my face. Sometimes I don’t even do that. As I usually don’t wear make up I guess it’s not all that bad, but still, not the best role model I suppose.
The other day, I was asked in a comment what my own skin care routine is. My first reaction was “what routine?!”. Even disregarding my laziness, calling what I do to my skin a “routine” isn’t right. I just have a hundred different methods of cleaning, toning and moisturizing my skin, and each morning and night it looks different.
Nonetheless, after this rant, let me still try to make my messy so-called-routine in to something that I can share with you. Here we go: what I do to my face.

A good while back, Lisa from the Annmarie Gianni skincare line was kind enough to send me a few samples of their products. I’ve been unforgivably slow to react, but better late than never I suppose. Let me share my two cents about the products I received.
Annmarie Gianni is a natural, organic skin care line with beauty products, mainly with focus on the face. The sample pack that I have had the opportunity to try out contained a neroli toner, aloe vera herbal face cleanser, coconut oil, face scrub and honey coconut mask. Let’s take them one by one.

I love scrubs! Each wash leaves you with glowing skin, and they are really easy to make – basically anything with grains give a scrubbing effect.
This recipe is a mixed face scrub/mini mask. Either, you can apply to your face, rinse it off and you’re done. But if you have more time, just leave it on for a couple of minutes (up to 15) to let the clay dry, and nourish your skin even more. I usually leave it on while brushing my teeth and then rinse it off 🙂
It’s also really handy since it’s in powder format, so you never have to worry about it going off (If you make sure no water comes into the jar, it will last you forever, literally.) (more…)

I have never been a big fan of Nuxe. I find that they charge you heaps for stuff that they call natural, that really contain mostly silicones and alcohol and maybe just a small percentage of what they boast about on the cover.
Also I have a memory that it was they who sold this “multi purpose oil”, a miracle oil that could be used for anything – hair, face and body! But when looking at the ingredient list, it was 100% apricot oil, that you can buy from the internet for probably literally a hundredth of their price (and still get it cold-pressed and ecological, which theirs weren’t). But, I’m not sure about this and if they did, they don’t seem to sell it anymore, luckily. (more…)
